Welcome to Bradford on Avon, Fairtrade Town since 2003, the first in Wiltshire. Our aim is to do all we can to redress unfair trade restrictions on developing countries by raising awareness of Fairtrade and increasing local people's access to the whole range of excellent Fairtrade products.
There is an active local group carrying these aims forward.
Go to the Cottage Cafe at 33 Silver Street (behind Bishopston Trading), get your Fairtrade drink and some delicious homemade food, then go upstairs and turn right.
In the corner you will see lots of information and materials you can use. Take any leaflets you need, and if you want to borrow other stuff sign it out in the book.
This resource centre is for anyone in the area - individuals, schools and young people, and other groups who want to promote Fairtrade.
Launched in Fairtrade Fortnight, it covers Bradford, Melksham, Trowbridge, Warminster and Westbury. Look for copies in shops, cafés, supermarkets and other places around the five towns. Also stocks of Directory and other materials in the Fairtrade Resource Centre, upstairs in the Cottage Café, behind Bishopston at the bottom of Silver Street in Bradford.
If you use Fairtrade and you're not already in the Directory, contact Viv Kynaston at 01225-863647 or vivkynaston@btinternet.com
Our local Sainsbury's is a great friend of Fairtrade, and has worked with us on many in-store events. In recent years Sainsbury's nationally has committed to selling exclusively Fairtrade bananas and Fairtrade Red Label Tea, and the Chief Executive has set up a development fund of £6million over 4 years, in conjunction with Comic Relief. This is excellent news for Fairtrade producers, and shows that Sainsbury's know their customers value ethical shopping.
